Heartbeat by Ivan Guerrero Najera

Heartbeat

I meditated to the shores of my breath
And the silence was loud
My heart was a foreign device
My form a feather, a cloud

I pictured your eyes in my mind
Your lips and your smile
The touch of your hands
So gentle, I grasped for while

I conjured the warmth
You send from your fingers
To my hand as you grasp
How the heat of it lingers

Like a child with a kite
Keep me grounded yet flailing
The thought of you anchors
My conscience is sailing

The pictures that float
Across and away
You come and possess
Replacing the mess with your stay

Do I even exist
If not for your love?
I would find myself empty and lost
Like a bulb, out and off

You’re real and awake
Alive and come true
Bring here your reality
Enlighten me now and anew
