Uprooted by Ivan Guerrero Najera

Uprooted

A tree fell and I saw
From the weight of itself
And the length of its roots
Rotting into oblivion

All its memories dropped
Alongside the dead leaves
And the chipmunks and squirrels
And the mulch and the mud

Fed itself to tomorrow
Giving back to the soil
Reconstruction, surrender
And the measure of time

If it's life that is relative
And all truth just escapes
Take these words into thought
And forget them as mine

It's your mind that has changed
As mine did on that trail
Saw a bear and a snake
And the darkness of night

A path long, always winding
And direction absurd
Take my hand and let go
Catch the clearing ahead

Planted firmly, uprooted
Manifested and scared
